TASC History

TASC Inc. is a non-profit 501-C-3 corporation, an interdisciplinary organization devoted to substance abuse and mental health assessment and treatment. TASC has a state-of-the-art drugs of abuse testing laboratory onsite to provide the high quality drug testing analyses.

TASC’s primary purpose is to promote the overall well-being of adults and juveniles through the provision of high quality substance abuse and mental health services. This purpose is achieved via a menu of TASC services including: Laboratory urinalysis drug testing services, assessment/evaluation, referral to appropriate treatment, treatment counseling, client case management and monitoring, special education programs, consultation services.

TASC's laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) under the CAP Forensic Drug Testing Program (AU-ID: 1050328). TASC is also certifed through the federal Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) under CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) regulations (CLIA ID#: 3D0938729). These certifications involve onsite inspections plus rigorous proficiency testing, staffing, education and training requirements. The laboratory follows recommendations of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (formerly National Institute on Drug Abuse) for their testing procedures, still complying with all CAP and CLIA guidelines. The American Probation and Parole Association’s Drug Testing Guidelines are followed in areas where applicable for our contractual needs.

TASC adheres to very high standards in our specimen collection and testing procedures for criminal justice agencies as well as our private accounts. We utilize the visual monitoring procedure for the criminal justice sample collection process at all our TASC facilities. Legal accountability is documented by strict chain-of-custody procedures, adherence to federal and state requirements for confidentiality is followed and expert testimony is offered when required. TASC laboratory performs a wide range of state-of-the-art testing methodologies from enzyme immunoassay to Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry, the latter of which is currently the most specific and sensitive methodology available for drug confirmations.

TASC serves as an established counseling agency which is approved and licensed by the Division of Behavioral Health in the Department of Health Services. TASC has over 20 years of experience in meeting the behavioral health needs of adult and juvenile clients within the Phoenix metropolitan area. A great deal of TASC’s experience has been working with high risk youth involved in the criminal justice system.

TASC employs an eclectic team of certified Masters and Doctoral level clinicians specializing in evaluation/assessment and dual focused treatment services utilizing a wide array of treatment modalities. Systems Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy are the primary therapeutic approaches utilized. TASC clinical staff consists of Certified Substance Abuse Counselors, Certified Professional Counselors, and Ph.D. level therapists, all under the direct supervision of a licensed clinical psychologist.
